For the second time that day, the electric robot got the shock of his life. “Are…are you serious?”

“Holy shit…” Flareon breathed, “Who’d wanna kill Detective Elecman?”

“And why?”

“I can’t say who.” Gutsman started, “And the why I only heard once, but Cutman was also frantic when he was telling me, so God knows what was and wasn’t accurate.”

“So…my visit to him must’ve had something to do with this.”

“Do you know who did it?” the human asked.

The robot nodded, but said nothing more about it.

The girl looked at him accusingly, “Was it you?”

Gutsman laughed, “Kid, if I wanted him deactivated, he would be deactivated.”

“Then how could you--” Elecman paused midsentence, his mind suddenly flashing back to what was now a confirmed memory of his fall. He recalled the gruff voice that had yelled out his name.

Gutsman’s voice.

The youngest DLN looked at his brother, “You were there…”

“I tried to stop it from happening but…I was a bit too late. You were already over the edge when I got there.” He saw the next question coming and answered before it could be asked; “Cutman got in contact with me somehow. That was the first time I actually heard about--” he paused briefly to rethink his words, “He told me why he had really been sent to prison and said that you were in danger.”

Elecman frowned, “Why he was really sent to prison? You mean he was framed?”

Gutsman nodded, “Yeah. Same as Rock.”

“By who??”

Again, the big robot shook his head.

The electric DLN sighed irritably, “Alright, alright…what can you tell me?”

Gutsman shrugged, “Not much. You’ll have to talk to Cutman about the conversation.”

“Yeah, because that went well the first time.” Flareon scoffed.

“That’s ‘cause you didn’t ask the right way.” Gutsman chuckled, “Give him a hug and tell him you love him or call him big brother or something like that and he’s putty in your hands. Cuts is a big softie for his little brothers. Just don’t tell him I told you that.”

“Hmm…interesting.” Elecman said, mentally storing that bit of information away for later use.

The group glanced up as the door opened, “Speak of the devil.” Gutsman said with a smirk. He stood with the others to greet the oldest Robot Master.

Said robot was restocking the cabinet with E-Tanks, “Sorry that took so long, I forgot all the assholes like to drive around this time; nearly got hit like five times. Hope I didn’t keep you guys waiting too--” He stopped abruptly as he turned and his youngest brother latched onto him with a hug.

“What happened to me wasn’t you fault; I don’t blame you and you shouldn’t blame yourself,” Elec smiled at his brother, “What’s important is that you tried your best to protect me and I appreciate that…”

The orange DLN’s initial surprise was replaced with a soft smile. He did not notice the other three in the room smile at each other as if sharing a joke. “I-I mean, you know, it was whatever…” he started, his voice gradually fading as he could not find the words.

The detective kept up his smile, “We’re gonna go see Doctor Light…would you and Gutsman come with us? And if you don’t mind, I really want to know what we talked about that day…”

“Uh, yeah, I don’t see why not.” He glanced at the biggest of the DLNs, “Gutsy?”

The former construction ‘bot shrugged, “Sure, not like we’ve got anything better to do.”

Cutman nodded, “Great. You know where Light lives?”

Elecman shook his head, finally releasing the other robot from the hug, “Not really.”

“That’s fine, we know the way.”

The group headed out of the suite, the residents locking the door behind them. Gutsman fell back to walk with his little brother, grinning at him, “You’re such a ham.”

OoOoO

A long walk later the group arrived at the house and laboratory of the famed Doctor Light.

The door was answered by a cute blonde girl wearing a red dress and matching shoes. Her hair was done up in a ponytail with a green ribbon. She brightened at the sight of the DLN detective. “Elecman!” She half squealed, nearly knocking the robot over, “It’s been so long! How’ve you been? Doctor Light said you’re a detective now; that must be so exciting!!”

“Oh, um…” Elecman weakly returned the hug, “Good to see you too…um…”

The girl broke the hug, giggling, “Roll. I forgot, Doctor Light did mention you’d forgotten a lot…I’m your big sister; DLN zero-zero-two.”

The detective seemed shocked to hear this, the girl looked remarkably human, “You’re a robot?!?”

“Yeah!” his older sister beamed. The smile disappeared suddenly as she looked as though she’d just remembered something, “Ohmigosh, I’m so sorry! Leaving you all standing outside like this, where’re my manners? Please, come in! Come in!”

The robot girl ushered her guests into the house, leading them into a cozy living room with modestly sized furniture with the exception of a top-of-the-line television mounted on the wall, surrounded by photos of the good doctor and his mechanical offspring.

Roll directed a smile at Cutman and Gutsman, “It’s good to see you two again, too. It’s been a while since you came to visit.”

The two smiled and nodded. Cutman took Roll’s right hand, gently kissing the robot girl’s hand where the metacarpals met the phalanges at her middle finger. He smiled almost knowingly at his sister “Sorry sis, we’ve been pretty busy with work.”

Roll giggled like a schoolgirl, pulling her hand back. The robot detectives noted that it may have been done with just a bit too much force, “You’re such a charmer, Cutman. How is it you don’t have a girlfriend yet?”

The other robot only let out a light chuckle and shrugged, marking the end of the conversation.

Roll turned to the others three, “Can I get anyone anything?” She asked, “Water, E-tanks, tea, anything?”

“I could go for an E-tank.” Crash nodded.

“Coffee if you’ve got any.” Flareon added.

Elecman nodded, “I’ll have an E-tank as well, thank you. Is Doctor Light busy? We’d like to talk with him.”

“He is, but I’m sure he’d be happy to take a break to catch up with his son.” Roll chirped, “I’ll go tell Doctor Light you’re here and bring you your drinks.” With that, the fem-bot vanished farther into the house, leaving the two detectives and their shadow to take in their surroundings.

“Nice place.” Flareon said.

“Mm.” Elecman nodded, standing up to examine the photos on the wall. He saw many with the good doctor, a brown-haired boy he suspected was Megaman, and Roll. Others had group shots of robots he wasn’t familiar with.

He recognized Cutman and Gutsman, most of their photos showed them generally being silly for the camera; it was rare to find a photo of them apart. One such instance was a series of more professional-looking photos which were arranged in a 3-by-3 square on the wall; featuring solo pictures of Rock, Roll, and Cutman. Followed by Gutsman, a blue parka-wearing robot the detective assumed was the same from the article he had read, a yellow and orange robot sporting an orange Mohawk, matching chest plating and rounder black body, a red and grey robot that appeared to have a stylized torch on his head, and finally ending with his own mugshot, looking as serious as he did in the other photos featured on the wall. In the center of the square was a boy he did not recognize; he had the same brown hair as Rock, but a pair of sunglasses made him harder to identify.

The detective glanced at his older brothers, silently asking they explain. The biggest of them pointed to each unknown robot as he named them, “Iceman, Bombman, Fireman, and Protoman.”

He nodded slightly and turned back to the images to ponder the robots. As he did this, Roll re-entered the room carrying a tea tray with two E-tanks and a mug of coffee along with several additives. “Sorry that took so long,” she apologized, setting the tray down and serving her guests their drinks. “Doctor Light will be out in a minute or so.”

Elecman rejoined the group, taking his place on the edge of the couch. He nodded a thank you to his sister as she gave him his E-tank. It was then he noticed a small band across Roll’s middle finger that more polished than the rest of her, “Do you wear a ring?” He asked.

The blonde seemed surprised by the question, “Wh-what?!”

“Your finger.” Elecman pointed out the spot, “There’s a small part of your finger that looks more polished…probably from you messing with a ring, taking it off or putting it on.

“Oh…!” Roll laughed a bit, examining the spot as if it in itself was a ring, “Yeah, I do have one I like to wear, but not when I’m doing my chores. I’d hate to lose it.”

Before he could ask more, an older man entered the room. Despite his tired eyes, there was still obvious cheer in his smile and voice as he spoke. “Elecman...it’s so good to see you.”

The DLN smiled, standing to approach the old doctor. He looked like Santa Clause in a lab coat, but Doctor Thomas Light’s appearance was hardly a mystery to anyone; he was known the world over for great advancements in robotics. The electric type shook his creator’s hand, “Doctor Light, it’s nice to--” he was cut short as the human embraced his creation in a tight hug.

“I’ve missed you, son…we’ve all missed you.”

Elecman smiled faintly, returning the hug. It took a few moments for the two to finally part and take their seats. When they did, the detective got down to business quickly, “Doctor…I was hoping you could tell me more about who I was before…well, before my accident.”

The human’s smile faded slightly, “Are you considering trying to regain that life?” he asked, “Chief Ringman did explain you’d started asking a few questions…” The note of worry was obvious in his voice.

The robot shook his head, “I have no intention of going back, I’m sure they’ve found someone to take my place in my old job…I’m happy with the life I lead now. I was just curious about changes to myself…personality and such…from what I understand; my fall caused me to lose quite a bit.”

“I’ll go get the photo album.” Roll beamed, dashing off to do so.

As she did this, Elecman looked back to his creator, “So…what was I like?”

“Bossy. Way too serious.” Cutman smirked. Gutsman seemed to be the only one showing approval at the comment as he chuckled. The humans and drill-handed robot shot them both disapproving looks.

“You were always a bit stubborn.” Light told him, “And absolutely impossible to sway when you had something in your mind to do; if you believed something had to be done or done a certain way, it was nearly impossible to convince you otherwise.”

“Not that different from now.” Crashman chuckled.

“But you were also very responsible and had a strong sense of duty. Before your accident I don’t think you ever called in sick, so to speak, at your work. You always made a point to go into work.”

“Crazy workaholic.” Gutsman commented. It was Cutman’s turn to chuckle, the two high fived and ignored the looks they were getting. “Oh, and you forgot sadistic.” The two robots laughed even harder.

The old doctor looked as though he were about to say something to his mechanical sons when Roll reappeared holding a leather-bound book with ‘family album’ written across the front in gold script. He nodded to his daughter, “Thank you, Roll.”

Roll nodded and sat next to doctor Light, perched on the arm of his easy chair. The detectives and even the other two visiting robots leaned in to see the pictures as the elderly human paged through, occasionally stopping on photos and telling the group the story attached to it.

As they paged through, Elecman noted that a majority of the photos were of Rock, Roll, and the good doctor himself. It was rare to see a photo of any of the robot masters, and when they did appear, there were often clusters of them. He noticed this especially started after the appearance of the same Megaman debut article he had been looking at just hours before.

When the electric DLN inquired about this, the old man’s smile seemed to turn to one of sadness, “An old colleague of mine, Doctor Albert Wily, would kidnap you and your brothers so often...most of the time, it would be months before I saw you on our side again. So when you were here, I’d try to make as many good memories with you as possible…”

Elecman inwardly smiled, noting Light’s phrasing; he had used the term ‘kidnap’ rather than ‘steal’…he truly thought of his creations as people.

Everyone glanced up at a knock on the door. Roll quickly rose and answered the door, squealing in delight at the duo on their doorstep. She ushered the two in, revealing a pair of humans; one a tall man with brown hair, a beard and moustache. Under the white lab coat all robotic engineers seemed to wear was a yellow button-up shirt and a green tie along with light brown slacks.

The other human was a young girl, looking to be thirteen or fourteen. She was blonde and wore an ushanka, spherical blue earrings, a matching tank-top and a long, flowery skirt. The two humans did not seem to share many similarities save for their twin green eyes and skin tan enough to rival even Flareon’s.

The detectives and human girl recognized the tall man as Doctor Mikhail Sergeyevich Cossack, a Russian robotics engineer with intelligence to rival Doctor Light himself.

Doctor Light smiled, setting the photo album down to greet their new guests. “Mikhail, what a surprise!” He said, shaking hands with the man.

Mikhail returned the smile and handshake. He spoke with a thick Russian accent, “Is good to see you again, Thomas.”

“How’ve you been, Kalinka?” Roll asked, just parting from an embrace with the girl.

“I’ve been well.” Kalinka smiled, talking with an accent similar to her father’s. “папа had some business in the states. We just got back from Hawaii.”

The old scientist smiled, looking at his old friend, “Hawaii, Mikhail? That explains the tan.”

The Russian scientist chuckled and nodded, “да, it took longer than I had expected.”

“Will you be returning to Russia, then?”

Again, he nodded, “We wanted to come say hello before we returned.”

“Well we’re always glad to see you two.”

“Gosh Kalinka, you look like a model with that tan…I wish I could do that.” Roll cooed, still admiring the other girl’s bronze skin.

The blonde clasped Roll’s hands in her, “Come,” She said, leading Roll out the door, “I have present for you.”

The detectives and human stood from the couch, sensing it would be better to leave the group to catch up. Cossack noticed, seeming a bit surprised to see them, “Oh, my apologies…I did not realize you had company.”

“Oh, it’s no trouble.” Light turned to the robots, “You remember my sons?”

He nodded, briefly watching Elecman before returning his gaze to Light, “I thought Elecman…”

“He did.” Thomas interrupted, “He’s suffered serious memory loss, but he’s become a detective now.”

“Ah, how exciting.” Mikhail smiled at Elecman, “I am Doctor Mikhail Cossack.”

“It’s nice to meet you, sir.” The electric one shook his hand, “This is my partner Crashman and our temporary shadow, Flareon Keahi.” The introduced pair nodded a hello to the Russian, who returned the gesture.

The other robots greeted the human as well, “Hey Sergei.” Cutman said with a brief wave.

“What’s up?” Gutsman nodded. The human again responded with a nod.

Just then, the two girls re-ented the house with Roll looking a bronze beauty like her friend and grinning from ear to ear. She did a twirl to display the full tan that covered her, “How do I look?” she asked.

“You look wonderful, Roll.” Her father said, he glanced at Kalinka, “How’d this happen?”

The teen presented the older man with a spray can, “Is tan for robots.” She explained, “I bought a few cans for Roll during папа’s business visits.”

Roll hugged the human, “Thank you so much, Kalinka! I love it!”

The blonde human returned the hug, smiling, “You are welcome. I’m glad you like it.”

Elecman glanced at his partners as the humans and robot continued to talk and nodded, indicating that they were leaving. He looked to his creator, “Thank you for your help, Doctor Light, but we really should get going.”

“Oh yes, of course.” Doctor Light nodded, clearing a path to the door for the group, “It was good to see you again, Elecman, I’m glad you’ve been able to make a life for yourself.” He said with a smile.

The youngest DLN returned the smile, hugging his creator one last time before exiting.

“Later dad.” Cutman said, giving a mock salute to his creator.

“Bye dad.” Gutsman followed, giving a brief wave to the old man and his company.

OoOoO

Once the group was farther from the house, Elecman looked at his brothers, “You call Doctor Light ‘dad’?”

“Yeah.” Cutman shrugged, “The old man’s sucker for his...” the orange one paused, looking for the right word, “Kids.” He said finally, “Seriously, call ‘im dad and he’ll bend over backwards for you…just don’t tell him we told you that.”

“Must run in the family.” Flareon said with a smirk. Crashman chuckled, elbowing the human.

“Maybe in Rock and Roll, but I’m glad I didn’t get stuck with it.” Cutman responded with a grin. He did not notice the group sharing the same knowing smile they had hours before.

“By the way,” Elec interrupted, catching up to walk alongside his oldest brother, “Think we can talk about that conversation now?” He asked with a sweet smile.

Cutman glanced at his brother briefly before looking forward again, “I dunno…that wasn’t--” He stopped as the detective latched onto his brother’s arm with a hug.

He spoke in a tone to match his smile, “Please big brother? I’d really appreciate it.”

The scissor-headed robot’s doubtful look melted away and was replaced with a smile, “Alright, alright…but not here…can we maybe go back to your place or something? I’d rather not talk about it in public.”

Elecman nodded, “Sure, of course.” He said, taking the lead as the group continued, now heading for the detectives’ shared apartment.

So this took a lot longer than I'd expected ^^; Lost inspiration for a while and got caught up in some other things...but new chapter, yay! :la:
It's a bit longer than I would've liked, but my original stopping point was a bit abrupt...plus, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to fit some of the more important information in this chapter at the start of a new one...I felt it'd feel a bit awkward or rushed or something...I'unno, but it's here now :dummy:

Chapter 5: fav.me/d8rdvd4
Chapter 7: fav.me/d98zzp4

Fun fact: I actually found Dr. Cossack's full name in a story by a group called the Mechanical Maniacs. I thought they were just bullshitting a full name for him because reasons, but when I checked the Megaman wiki for his appearance, I was shocked to find out that actually was his name.

So I finally got around to reading all of this, and I LOVE IT!!! It was so sweet how all the light bots and Dr. Light remembered 'leccie X3 and is it weird that I laughed too much when Flareon said: "must run in the family" ? XD As per usual, like all the stories I like, this chapter is my favourite! Until the next one when I say that one's my fav XD
